Say Non To Air France

Support the ECEAE campaign.

Each year thousands of nonhuman primates are transported by air around the world to suffer and die in research laboratories. These monkeys originate from countries such as Mauritius, China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Barbados. Some are trapped in the wild while others are bred in captivity, imprisoned in large-scale facilities. They are ripped from their family groups, packed into small wooden crates and travel as cargo in the holds on passenger airlines where they can endure inadequate ventilation, noise, temperature fluctuations and delays en route as they are shipped on extremely long journeys around the world.

The ECEAE has been successful in persuading many airlines to agree to stop or notbecome involved in this cruel trade, including European carriers such as British Airways, Lufthansa, Czech Airlines, Finnair, Alitalia, Iberia, Swiss International Airlines and Brussels Airlines as well as non-European carriers including Delta Airlines, Eva Air, Northwest Airlines, South African Airways, United Airlines and China Airlines.

Air France is now the only major European passenger airline still engaged in the crueltrade of transporting primates for research. The airline transports monkeys from countries such as Mauritius and Vietnam to the research laboratories of Europe and the USA.

Shipments of monkeys by Air France include:

  • 85 long-tailed macaques from Mauritius to the USA on 24th June 2011
  • 100 long-tailed macaques from Vietnam to France on 9th March 2011
  • 20 long-tailed macaques from Vietnam to the USA on 12th May 2011
